Srinagar (Jammu-Kashmir): The government has beefed up security arrangements in the Kashmir Valley ahead of the Independence Day celebrations on August 15. The security personnel have been deployed in Srinagar city and other towns of the valley where the main events of the day are being held.

Security forces have also heightened technical surveillance in Kashmir by making use of drone cameras in sensitive places and around the venues where the parade will be organized. In Srinagar, LG Manoj Sinha will preside over the major event at Sheri Kashmir Cricket Stadium in Sonwar. A full dress rehearsal and parade was held today at the venue amid tight security. The entry and exit roads to the stadium will be sealed on August 15.

Inspector-General of Police Vijay Kumar said that they have inputs of militants attempting to carry out attacks but security has been put in place to thwart their designs. Kumar was speaking at the full dress rehearsal and parade in Srinagar.

In the last few weeks, militants have intensified their attacks on BJP activists and at several places, security forces busted militant hideouts and recovered weapons and ammunition.

Security forces have also intensified the frisking of pedestrians and two-wheelers in Srinagar city.

For the first time, I-day celebrations will be held at all the government offices and in schools where government officials and students will hoist tricolour and sing the national anthem.

The government has asked the DDC chairpersons in all 20 districts to preside over the function and unfurl tricolour and lead the parade.

IGP said that security forces will ensure that I-day celebrations will be conducted peacefully.
