Arrested TDP leader Kimidi Kala Venkatrao released

TDP leader Kimidi Kala Venkatrao was earlier arrested from his residence on Wednesday night in connection with the case of a scuffle at Ramateertham on January 2.

Srikakulam (Andhra Pradesh): TDP leader and former State Minister Kimidi K Venkatrao who was arrested from his residence in Rajam, Srikakulam District in connection with clash between YSRCP and TDP workers in Ramateertham on January 2, was released late in the night on Wednesday.

On that day, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP MP Vijayasai Reddy had visited Ramateertham Lord Ram temple where the Lord's idol was reportedly desecrated.

There was a clash between the workers of both parties. Based on the complaints by YSRCP activists, the police had filed cases against several people. Venkatrao was arrested in connection with those cases.

TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu had condemned the arrest of Venkatrao and had demanded to lift the false cases against Venkatrao and release him immediately without any conditions.

TDP Andhra Pradesh president Atchannaidu had also condemned the arrest, asking why a 65-year-old leader was arrested at his house in the night. "What was the crime for which Venkatrao is arrested? What is wrong in visiting the Ramateertham temple," he had asked.
