Telangana's Ramappa temple bags UNESCO heritage tag

Ramappa temple in Telangana's Warangal has been conferred with UNESCO's heritage tag.

Mulugu: The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's world heritage site tag has been tagged with Ramappa temple in Telangana's Warangal, Cultural Ministry informed on Sunday.

"It gives me immense pleasure to share that @UNESCO has conferred the World Heritage tag to Ramappa Temple at Palampet, Warangal, Telangana. On behalf of the nation, particularly from the people of Telangana, I express my gratitude to Hon PM @narendramodi for his guidance & support," wrote Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy in a tweet.

With the honour, Ramappa temple has become the first architectural site identified as world heritage site in Telugu states. The decision was made during World Heritage Committee meeting held in China, as per sources.

The government proposed Ramappa temple as its only nomination for the tag in 2019. The architectural marvel built in 13th century is named after its architect Ramappa.

"Excellent! Congratulations to everyone, especially the people of Telangana. The iconic Ramappa Temple showcases the outstanding craftsmanship of the great Kakatiya dynasty. I would urge you all to visit this majestic temple complex and get a first-hand experience of its grandness," Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.
