Tehsildar transports COVID-19 victim's body from home to crematorium

A tehsildar transported the body of a woman, who died of COVID-19, to the crematorium as no one from the neighbourhood was willing to give her a respectable crematorium fearing they too would contract the virus

Tumakuru (Karnataka): Realising that the body of a woman, who died of COVID-19, was left stranded in her house, the local tehsildar came forward and helped transport her body to the crematorium.

Jayamma, 64, a resident of Kuppur village in Tumakuru, was tested positive for COVID-19 a few days ago and was getting treated at her house. On Wednesday, she passed away.

As no one came forward to give her a respectable cremation fearing they too will get infected, tehsildar GV Mohan arrived at her house and along with revenue inspector Shivanna, village accountant Devaraju and ambulance drivers Madhu and Zaheer, took Jayamma's body to the electric crematorium in Tumakuru city. Mohan and the other men wore PPE kits while ferrying the woman's body.
