Bengaluru: A senior BBMP health inspector G Sitaramaiah, 58, who after working relentlessly as part of COVID-19 related services and subsequently contracted the virus, passed away at a private hospital in the city on Saturday.

After the pandemic gripped the city, Sitaramaiah rendered service in various capacities —conducting tests, quarantining and vaccinating people. He was admitted to the MS Ramaiah Medical College on April 22 and was getting treated in the ICU. He also suffered from diabetes and hypertension.

'Hospital authorities kept mum'

Sitaramaiah's family members complained that though the hospital authorities were bound to keep the patient's kin updated on health condition every day, none from MS Ramaiah Medical College called them even once since April 22.

It was only after he passed away did they call the family asking them to take his body.

When asked, the hospital authorities said they attend more than 500 COVID-19 patients a day and that it is impossible for them to keep everyone's family abreast on a daily basis.

Relatives of several patients admitted in Bengaluru's reputed hospitals complained that they never receive any information about the patient. Also, patients are not allowed to carry their smartphones to the COVID ward.

Families of several victims are demanding these hospitals to show CCTV visuals to ascertain how their people were treated.
