New Delhi: The Supreme Court today refused to entertain a petition seeking directions to the centre to assess the feasibility of confiscating 100% black money and awarding life imprisonment in the offences like bribery.

The bench comprising of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Hrishikesh was hearing a plea filed by BJP member and Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay. Upadhyay had also sought handing over 1993 Vohra Committee report on Criminalisation of Politics to the central agencies like NIA, CBI, ED and SFIO.

Justice Kaul said that they can not issue a mandamus to the Parliament and the petitioner can not expect the judiciary to take over all the roles.

'There is a tendency to come to the court to fulfil gaps. That's like coming to us and telling us to clean up the country. Are these meaningful prayers? Eradicate poverty, clean up the country and all?,' questioned Justice Kaul. He suggested the petitioner write books on the country, not petitions.

The court observed that it hopes the country will be at the top, the world becomes a beautiful place and it can not be entertaining such pleas with utopian prayers.

The matter was dismissed as withdrawn and the petitioner was given liberty to approach the law commission for the issue.
