New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its order for Oct. 4 on a petition regarding the framing of guidelines for Covid 19 deaths and granting of ex gratia to the kin of those who died due to covid 19.

The central government had informed the top court on Wednesday that an amount of Rs 50,000 will be paid to the kin of those who died due to corona from the state disaster responsive fund by the states. It further informed that a committee comprising of Additional District Collector, Chief Medical officer, Additional CMO, Head of the department of medicine of a Medical College and subject expert will look into the grievances regarding death certificates of those who died due to covid but don't have that written as the cause of their death.

Court asked the government what would happen in situations where medical papers are not given by the hospital and the cause of death will have to be ascertained. Court asked if the committee can ask the hospital to submit papers as evidence to prove that the death was due to covid. The government said that it has no issue with it.

The bench comprising of Justice MR Shah and Justice AS Bopanna appreciated the government's efforts in helping people despite reasons like large population. "What India has done, no country would have done despite all the circumstances," said Justice Shah.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said that India as a country has dealt with the situation in a much better way than the foreign countries where people are approaching courts against wearing masks, containment etc saying that it's their body, their life and their wish. The court said that it's nobody's right to endanger another person's life.
