New Delhi: The Supreme Court issued notice to Jharkhand government on Monday over a petition by candidates seeking age relaxation in Jharkhand Public Service Commission 2021 exam. The court asked the state if it can consider relaxing cut off date for determing age bar as the exam has not been held in five years.

The bench comprising of Justice MR Shah and Justice AS Bopanna was hearing a plea challenging the Jharkhand High Court order. The plea modification in cut off date for determining the age limit of candidates who can appear in JPSC 2021 exam was dismissed by the HC.

The apex court was told on Monday that JPSC examination was held only six times in 21 years. The lawyers submitted that JPSC had earlier issued an advertisement wherein the cut-off date for being eligible to appear in exam was 2011. Later on, it was withdrawn and fresh advertisement was issued in 2021 where the cut off date for being eligible was 2016.

The SC made a remark that it is a policy matter of the state but they would issue notice and seek its response. The matter was adjourned to September 21.
