The Supreme Court dismissed a petition seeking a special investigation team to probe conversions and crimes against women and said it cannot take action based on news reports.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court dismissed a plea seeking a special investigation team or SIT to probe alleged forceful conversions and crimes against women in Nuh district of Haryana. A bench headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana refused to entertain the plea, stating the court cannot take action based on some news reports.

Vikas Singh, a senior advocate told the court, the facts mentioned in the affidavit have been ascertained by the two petitioners who visited the locality. However, the bench refused to entertain the plea, reports said.

As per reports, the petition sought directions alleging violation of fundamental rights of the people. Advocate Vishnu Shankar Jain's petition stated local police refused to act as a result of which people's freedom was affected, reports said.
