Sarbananda Sonowal, L Murugan take oath as Rajya Sabha MPs

Rajya Sabha Speaker M Venkaiah Naidu administered oath to Sarbananda Sonowal and L Murugan.

New Delhi: Rajya Sabha Speaker and Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu administered oath to newly-elected MPs Sarbananda Sonowal and L Murugan on Friday. Sonowal has been elected to the upper house from Assam while Murugan has been elected from Madhya Pradesh. The former took his oath in Assamese while the latter took oath in Tamil.

Sonowal is the Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and also of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH). Murugan is the Minister of State in the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and also in Information and Broadcasting.

Union Minister for Minority Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Rajya Sabha Secretary General PP K Ramasarialu and other senior officials of Rajya Sabha Secretariat were present during the swearing-in ceremony.
