Ready to deal with Taliban in professional manner: IGP Kashmir

Addressing a joint press conference at the Army’s Victor Force headquarters in South Kashmir's Awantipora, Kashmir IGP Vijay Kumar claimed that they are ready to deal with the challenge in a "professional manner" if the Taliban or any other foreign element enters Kashmir.

Awantipora (Jammu and Kashmir): Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed that they are ready to deal with the challenge in a "professional manner" if the Taliban or any other foreign element enters Kashmir.

"Kashmir police have activated human and technical intelligence wings to ascertain whether any foreign element including Taliban is planning to infiltrate into Kashmir," IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar said while addressing a joint press conference at the Army’s Victor Force headquarters in South Kashmir's Awantipora.

“And if at all any such thing happens, I assure the people of Kashmir that police, army and the other security agencies will deal with the challenge professionally,” he added.

IGP Kashmir, accompanied by General officer Commanding of South Kashmir based Victor-Force Rashim Bali, further said, "We are getting inputs regarding fresh infiltration bids. More information on it is being collected. The militants killed in Bandipora recently had infiltrated this year only."

He claimed that the militants take refuge in villages and forests after killing civilians and politicians. "Intelligence wings are being activated. They (militants) will not only be tracked down in hinterlands but even in the forests too,” he said.

Giving details about today's Tral gunfight, GoC Victor Force said, "Yesterday, we received a piece of information regarding the presence of militants in the area. Following which the army along with the police launched a search operation in the Tarsar-Marsar area of Tral in Pulwama district. Today morning, a contact was established and three militants were killed in a close battle,” he said, adding that the trio was active for a long time in South Kashmir and two Ak-47 rifles, one SLR, magazines and a UBGL were recovered from them.

Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir identified the slain militants as Wakil Shah of Jaish-e-Muhammad who was involved in the killing of BJP leader Rakesh Pandita and SPO. “The identity of two other slain is being ascertained,” he said.
