Tomar said that small farmers are higher in proportion in the country and MSP would not yield them benefits, rather FPOs would. Over 1 lakh crore has been allocated for building infrastructure. FPOs would enable better production and technology, he said.

Slamming Opposition parties, he asked what is black in farm laws. Many MPs raised their voice in support of farmers protest, but , none stated what is wrong with the laws. We convened many meeting with farmers' union and we asked them to point out the follies in the laws, but none pointed out. They are told that their land would be taken away, he added.

False information is spread across the country regarding farm laws. Modi government treats land  with water, not blood , like the Congress.

Further, he also stated that in Punjab, as per the law, farmers can be imprisoned if found guilty in any crime committed in contract farming. Whereas, the Centre's laws do not have such provisions, he said.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has issued a three-line whip to its Rajya Sabha MPs to be present in the House from February 8 to February 12 to support the government's stand as some "very important" business will be taken up for discussion and passing in the House.

"All BJP members in Rajya Sabha are hereby informed that some very important business will be taken up for discussion and passing in the Rajya Sabha from Monday, February 8 to February 12th," said BJP in a statement.

"All Members of BJP in Rajya Sabha are therefore requested to be positively present in the House throughout all five days and support the Government's stand," BJP added.

New Delhi: Proceedings of Rajya Sabha began on Friday morning as the House continues the discussion on motion of thanks on the President's address.

"Some of the members exceeded their time yesterday so that time will be reduced from their party's quota. This has to be understood by all," said Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Mahesh Poddar has given a short duration discussion notice in Rajya Sabha over 'efficient handling of COVID-19 situation in the country'.

Rajya Sabha meets for five hours daily in accordance with COVID-19 protocols in place. Yesterday in Rajya Sabha, All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Derek O'Brien said that the government failed to uphold Parliament's sanctity because of its arrogance, adding that it has "failed India at many levels".

While, raising the agitating farmers' issue in the Rajya Sabha, AAP leader Sanjay Singh urged the Centre to withdraw the new farm laws, stating that "have mercy on farmers who are being lathi-charged, called traitors, terrorists and Khalistanis".
