Punjab farmers call for march to Delhi borders on Feb 27

At the Barnala rally on Sunday, farmers gave a call to the people of Punjab to reach Delhi borders in large numbers on February 27, when the stir is going to complete three months.

New Delhi: Protesting farmers on Sunday announced a series of events from February 23-27 to further intensify their agitation against the three new agricultural laws as they accused the government of adopting "repressive" measures against them.

They also said they will soon devise a strategy to keep the protest going for a long.

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), which is spearheading the protests, told a press conference here that under their proposed escalation programme, February 23 will be observed as ''Pagadi Sambhal Diwas'' and February 24 as ''Daman Virodhi Diwas'', essentially to underline that farmers must be respected and no "repressive measures" should be taken against them.

The Morcha said February 26 will be observed as ''Yuva Kisan Diwas'' (youth farmers day) and February 27 as ''Mazdoor Kisan Ekta Divws'' (farmer-labourer unity day).

Gurcharan Singh Hawas, Vice President, Bhartiya Kisan Union Sanyukta Morcha, in an exclusive interview with ETV Bharat, told about the program of the farmers' organizations.

He said that the government was not paying attention to the demands of the farmers.

He said that on February 27 more farmers would gather on Delhi borders and after celebrating Kisan Mazdoor Ekta Diwas, an important meeting of the farmers would be held in Delhi itself.

Talking about the Red Fort incident, he claimed that it was all done by the government and the Delhi Police and it was not the fault of the young farmers.

Speaking on the January 26 incident, Farmers' leader Joginder Singh Ugrahan on Sunday said that the Farmers' Tractor rally route on Republic Day was well planned but some people were acting on directions of the rulers and they were against the programmes of farmer organisations.
