Rae Bareli (Uttar Pradesh): Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday cancelled all programs on the second day of her Rae Bareli tour. She left for Lucknow Airport from Bhuemau Guest House at 7:30 am today for Delhi at around 9 am. The Congress leader was also supposed to visit Amethi and hold a public court at the Bhumau Guest House in Rae Bareli, as well as visit several other villages.

The general secretary of the All India Congress Committee in charge of Uttar Pradesh on Sunday began the two-day tour of her mother's parliamentary constituency Rae Bareli. On the first day of the tour, she attended several meetings, visited Bachhrawan, Harchandpur, Jagdishpur village and Civil Lines areas of the city, where she was given a rousing welcome by party leaders and workers. She also offered prayers at the Hanuman temple in Churuva on the Lucknow-Rae Bareli border.

Rae Bareli is considered a bastion of Congress. In the last assembly elections, the BJP shocked Congress by defeating the latter in its turf. Hence, it is a matter of prestige for Priyanka to ensure the party's victory in the upcoming elections.

Rae Bareli has a total of six assembly seats — Raebareli Sadar, Harchandpur, Salon, Sareni, Bachhrawan and Unchahar. Of these, in the year 2017, the Bharatiya Janata Party had won three seats, while two seats were won by Congress and one seat by the Samajwadi Party.

From among the two seats that the Congress had won, the MLAs turned rebellious and began raising voices against the party. The legislators favoured the Bharatiya Janata Party and began questioning the policies of Congress.
