New Delhi: With Parliament entering the final week of the Monsoon Session, a meeting of floor leaders of Opposition parties in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha is scheduled to be held in the Chamber of Leader of Opposition, Rajya Sabha (Room no 43 Parliament House) at 10 am on Wednesday. Today's meeting is expected to formulate a common strategy to corner the Centre over a range of issues — farm laws, inflation and Covid crisis — but essentially the Pegasus controversy.
Yesterday, 14 leaders of various opposition parties met the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge at his office to chalk out a joint strategy for the remaining period of the Monsoon Session. Hours later, Rajya Sabha witnessed a highly stormy session when the Congress MP Pratap Singh Bajwa climbed on the table and threw the rule book at Rajya Sabha chair.
The Opposition parties have been pressing for a discussion on Pegasus snooping row, farm laws, inflation and Covid crisis. Vociferous sessions kicked off after Union Minister of IT Ashwini Vaishnaw's statement that the media report on Pegasus row was an attempt to malign Indian democracy.
The 26-day long Monsoon Session of Parliament started last month on July 19, with each day marking with pandemonium. The opposition parties have been disrupting proceedings in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, demanding a discussion on Pegasus snooping scandal, farm laws and other issues.
Opposition parties have been insisting Prime Minister Narendra Modi answer the vexed issues including involving the Pegasus controversy that allegedly hacked more than 300 verified mobile phone numbers, including opposition leaders, journalists, judges, activists and other VVIPs.
Earlier, PM Modi criticised the Opposition for its unbecoming conduct in Parliament, including tearing papers and making "derogatory" remarks on the manner the bills have been passed and accused them of insulting the legislature and the Constitution.
