According to initial inputs, over 15 workers were working in the factory when the unfortunate incident took place. "At least 12 factory workers have died. Efforts to rescue others who might have been trapped under the debris is still on" state Labour and Employment Minister and local MLA Brijesh Merja told PTI.
According to information, nearly 30 labourers are still stuck under the rubble of the destroyed wall. The death toll, consequently, is expected to rise. Earth movers have been deployed at the mishap site to aid the rescue operation.
It is learnt that sacks of salt were kept near the wall, due to the load of which it collapsed on workers packing on the other side of the structure. The incident took place during lunch hours, which otherwise would have led to more deaths.
The PMO, meanwhile, announced that Rs 2 lakh would be provided to next of kin of each of the deceased workers from PMNRF (Prime Minister National Relief Fund). "Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the tragedy in Morbi. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000: PM @narendramodi" it said.
