New Delhi: The All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) President and Central Committee Member of CPI(M), Ashok Dhawale on Monday said that his organisation never endorsed any call to destroy cops as a mark of protest against the farm laws.
"Destroying crop may be a way for some farmers to express their anger, but neither the Samyukta Kisan Morcha nor the Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha has called such a move," said Dhawale said in an interview with ETV Bharat.
"Destroying the crops can be a personal decision of a farmer but we never endorsed farmers for destroying crops. Farmer organizations have always called for a peaceful movement that does not involve destroying the crop," he said.
Meanwhile, reacting to Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar's remark on farmer protest, Dhawale said farmers want the laws repealed because they know that there is nothing to benefit farmers in it.
Dhawale said the recently enacted agricultural laws are not acceptable for the farmers' organizations and demanded they be repealed.
"The government has held 11 rounds of talks with the farmer unions but every discussion remained inconclusive because the government does not want the solutions on the basis of talks. They just want to impose those three laws on farmers because the corporate sector will get the benefit not the farmers," Dhawale said.
Slamming the NDA government over their suppressive actions on farmers, he said: "On one hand, the Prime Minister says that the government is at a distance from the farmers and on the other side oppressive policies are being adopted against the farmers' movement. More than a hundred farmers were jailed and more than 40 cases have been filed against the farmer leaders. Notices served to the people who support the movement and their houses are being raided by the government."
"In such a situation, no relief can be expected from the government. On 24 February, the United Kisan Morcha has called for observance of 'Anti-Suppression Day', under which a memorandum will be sent to the President of India from the district and tehsil levels across the country," he said.
Notably, Union minister Narendra Singh Tomar on Sunday reiterated that the Centre was ready to talk to the farmers protesting against the new agriculture laws, and said that mere gathering of the crowd does not lead to revocation of legislations.
