NCW launches Whatsapp helpline to aid expecting mothers amid COVID-19 scare

At a time when the country is grappling with the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched a WhatsApp helpline number to assist expectant mothers from across the country.

New Delhi: At a time when the country is grappling with the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has launched a WhatsApp helpline number to assist expectant mothers from across the country.

“The commission has noticed that pregnant women have been facing difficulty in accessing medical aid, therefore, it has decided to launch a message-only helpline service in addition to the email ID which is already operational,” the statement issued by NCW read.

"As the entire country fights COVID-19, there are some, such as pregnant women who face a higher risk in this pandemic. Therefore, the National Commission for Women has decided to launch a WhatsApp number where pregnant women can reach out for help by just texting their details to this helpline number. Our team is dedicatedly working to provide round-the-clock help to expectant mothers from across the country. We have already helped several women even before the launch of this helpline and shall continue to do so," NCW chief Rekha Sharma told ETV Bharat.

An expectant mother, based out of anywhere in the country, can reach out to the commission on WhatsApp through its helpline number 9354954224. This number will be functional round-the-clock. A dedicated team at the commission is looking after the speedy redressal of grievances received from pregnant women regarding procuring emergency medical help, the commission said. Those in need can also reach out to the commission’s email ID- helpatncw@gmail.com

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India on Thursday reported a massive surge of 3,79,257 cases and 3,645 deaths, thus marking the biggest single-day spike ever, taking the total tally to 18,376,524 and death toll to 2,04,812.
