Police recover envelope addressed to Israeli Embassy from blast site

An envelope addressed to the Israeli Embassy and containing a note was found at the site of a minor IED blast near the mission in Delhi on Friday. They said the envelope was addressed to embassy officials but did not divulge any further details including the content of the note.

Investigators scanned footage of CCTV cameras installed nearby and spotted a vehicle moving suspiciously near the embassy just before the explosion.

 A minor IED blast took place near the Israeli Embassy in the heart of Lutyens' Delhi on Friday evening, police said. No one was injured.

Some cars were damaged in the blast in the very high-security zone. Delhi Police Additional PRO Anil Mittal said initial impressions suggest that it could be a mischievous attempt to create a sensation.

Delhi Police chief S N Shrivastava said that the force has registered a case and its Special Cell has started investigating the matter.

'Full confidence' that India will ensure safety of Israelis: Netanyahu on embassy blast

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday expressed "full confidence" in the Indian authorities in ensuring the safety of Israelis and Jews in India following a blast close to the country's embassy in New Delhi.

A minor improvised explosive device (IED) blast took place outside the Israeli Embassy in the heart of Lutyens' Delhi on Friday evening.

India's National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval spoke to his Israeli counterpart Meir Ben-Shabbat and updated him on the situation and ongoing investigation into the bombing near the Israeli embassy, officials said here.

The update was conveyed to Prime Minister Netanyahu, they said.

Netanyahu asked to convey to his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi that Israel has "full confidence that the Indian authorities will do a thorough investigation of the incident and ensure the safety of Israelis and Jews who are there", the officials said.

The two sides agreed to continue full cooperation through all channels, they said.

Delhi Police brief HM Shah over Delhi blast

Union Home Minister Amit Shah was on Friday briefed by the Delhi Police about an IED blast near the Israeli Embassy here, officials said.

After the incident, the minister has been in touch with the Delhi Police top brass and is constantly monitoring the situation.

Shah has been briefed about the situation following the blast on APJ Abdul Kalam Road, a very high-security zone in the national capital, a home ministry official said.

 The minister has directed the police to take all necessary steps to investigate and find out the perpetrators of the crime, the official said.

New Delhi: A low intensity-blast occurred near the Israeli Embassy in New Delhi on Friday evening. According to the Delhi Police, a low-intensity improvised explosive device detonated at 5.05 pm not far from Vijay Chowk where several VVIPS including President Ram Nath Kovind and, Prime Minister Narendra Modi among other dignitaries were in attendance during the 'Beating Retreat' ceremony.

External affairs minister S Jaishankar took to Twitter to say that he spoke to his Israeli counterpart, Gabi Ashkenazi and said that the Indian government has taken the blasts "very seriously" and that "no effort will be spared to find the culprits."

Officials of the police and fire brigade reached the spot and are investigating the matter. Israel is treating a small bomb blast near the Israeli embassy in Delhi today, which did not injure anyone, as a terrorist incident according to Reuters which quoted an Israeli official Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah is in touch with senior Delhi police officials and is constantly monitoring the situation. 

An alert has also been issued at all airports, important installations and government buildings in view of the blast. Enhanced security measures have been put in place, the Central Industrial Security Force said. 

The nature of the explosion is being ascertained and security has been stepped up in and around the area. Senior police officers have reached the spot. Further details are awaited.

'Full confidence' that India will ensure safety of Israelis: Netanyahu on embassy blast
