Maharashtra Legislative Council polls: Mahavikas Aghadi wins 3 seats

In Nagpur and Pune, which are known as BJP dominant constituencies, Mahavikas Aghadi candidates scored massive victories.

Mumbai: Mahavikas Aghadi won on three of the five graduates and teacher constituencies of the legislative council on Friday. MVA won Pune, Aurangabad and Nagpur graduate constituencies. MVA candidate is leading in Pune teacher constituency while an independent candidate is on way to win Amravati teacher constituency seat. BJP could not win a single seat as the three parties in MVA fought these elections together.

MVA wins all three graduates constituencies
NCP candidate Arun Lad has won Pune graduate constituency. Congress candidate Abhijeet Vanjari won in Nagpur while NCP’s Satish Chavan won Aurangabad graduate constituency. MVA has won all the three graduates constituencies seats out of which two seats has gone to NCP while Congress bagged one.

The final results in Pune and Amravati elections are still awaited. In Pune teacher constituency, MVA candidate is leading while in Amravati, independent is in winning condition. The result of Dhule-Nandurbar local bodies MLC seat bypoll was also declared along with graduate and teacher constituency polls today. BJP’s Amrish Patel has won from there.

Nagpur was considered as BJP stronghold along with Pune. In Nagpur graduate constituency, Congress candidate Abhijit Vanjari got a massive victory. He managed to get required quota of votes in second preference votes defeating BJP’s Sandeep Joshi. Nagpur was BJP bastion since 58 years is collapsed now. After result declared, winning candidate Abhijeet Vanjari visited Ganesh Tekdi Temple in Nagpur with his wife to have darshan. He was accompanied by few workers.

Pune
In Pune, there had been big voting for both teacher and graduate constituency. Pune graduate constituency was also considered as BJP’s bastion. Maharashtra BJP president and representative of this constituency Chandrakant Patil has made this election as prestige point. The huge victory of NCP candidate Arun Lad has posed a setback to Chandrakant Patil.

NCP has first time been able to enter Pune graduate constituency. Arun Lad got 1 lakh, 22 thousand 145 votes while BJP’s Sangram Deshmukh got 73 thousand 321 votes. For the win, 1 lakh 14 thousand 137 votes was fixed. Lad got the required votes in first preference votes and so he was declared as the winner. The counting of votes in teacher constituency is still going on and Congress candidate Jayant Asgaonkar is leading here.


Aurangabad
MVA candidate Satish Chavan won Aurangabad graduate constituency seat. He has completed winning hat trick. He later said that I have got the success due to my work in last 12 years. He also admitted that, due to MVA, I got the advantage and my number of votes also increased. Satish Chavan continued his lead from the first round till the fifth. Chavan got total 1 lakh, 16 thousand 638 votes while BJP’s Shirish Boralkar got 58, 743 votes. In the fifth round, Chavan was declared the winner.

Amravati
The counting of votes in Amravati teachers constituency is going on for more than 35 hours. A total of 27 candidates are testing their fate. Independent Shekhar Bhoyar and Sangita Shinde who were a subject of discussion from the day one are now eliminated from the fra and there is a straight contest between independent Kiran Sarnaik and sitting MLC Srikant Deshpande. Kiran Sarnaik has maintained his lead and so Deshpande is under the possibility of defeat.

Dhule Nandurbar
In Dhule Nandurbar local bodies quota MLC seat, MVA has failed to maintain its good performance and Amrish Patel has got the chance to win the seat consecutively third time. BJP has wrested this seat from Congress which it was holding for the past 30 years. Dhule Nandurbar district is considered a bastion of Congress for many years. In last assembly elections too, in an atmosphere favourable to BJP, some Congress candidates won from here. In the history of MLC polls, Congress monopoly was constant. But, this time BJP wrested this seat from Congress.
