Mumbai: Senior BJP leader Kirit Somaiya has alleged that the Maharashtra government is using the police like a mafia while making serious allegations against leaders and ministers of the ruling coalition.
Having been stopped by the police while going to Kolhapur during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations, Somaiya said: “The police have started working like the mafia. This was all done under the supervision of Home Minister Dilip Patil and Joint Commissioner of Police Vishwas Nangare Patil. I will file a complaint with the human rights commission about this.”
The BJP leader has been making one allegation after another against the ministers and leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition government in Maharashtra. Following the allegations, former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh, Transport Minister Anil Parab and Member of Parliament Bhavana Gawali are also under investigation.

Kirit Somaiya Thursday called on Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to take action against all these leaders as soon as possible.
“Leaders of the alliance government Anil Parab and Hassan Mushrif have filed a defamation suit against me. These claims will not stand up in court. On the contrary, the Maha Vikas alliance government will have to clarify the role of its ministers and leaders in court,” Somaiya said.
Even before the 2019 Assembly elections, Somaiya had made similar allegations against the NCP and Congress leaders. He has criticised the leaders of the alliance government for falling ill or fleeing after allegations are made against them. He claimed there was truth in all such allegations.
Somaiya has also leveled serious allegations of corruption against NCP leader and state Rural Development Minister Hasan Mushrif and his family. He submitted 2,700 pages of evidence against Mushrif to the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Following this, Mushrif filed a defamation suit of Rs 100-crore against Somaiya.
The ED has also summoned Anil Parab to probe the ongoing money laundering case against former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. Suspended police officer Sachin Waze had alleged that Anil Parab received Rs 20 crore in a Mumbai police transfer case. The ED questioned Anil Parab in this regard.
