Mumbai: Alleging failure in protecting OBC quota in local bodies, Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) will hold a state-wide agitation against Maha Vikas Aghadi government today.

The OBC quota was struck down by the Supreme Court citing that reservation cannot exceed 50 per cent of the seats in local bodies.

BJP state vice-president Sanjay Kute and the party’s OBC Morcha state president Yogesh Tillekar said that the alliance government has been avoiding the political reservation of the OBC community for the last six months. The BJP leadership has consistently been pressuring the state government to take immediate action to collect the imperial data of the OBC community. However, the coalition government has not made any visible efforts in the last six months, it is alleged.

In such a situation, five local bodies, to which elections are due, may go into polls without any reservation to the OBC candidates as soon as the Election Commission announces poll dates.
