Kerala: Woman beaten by husband succumbs to injury
A drunken man brutally beat up his middle-aged wife in his inebriated state. The woman, who had sustained severe internal injuries succumbed, at Government T D Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha, on Tuesday early morning.
Alappuzha: Kamalamma, aged 49, a native of Karuvatta in Alappuzha district of Kerala was brutally beaten up by her drunken husband on Thursday night. Though she was taken to the hospital by her neighbours on Friday morning, she succumbed on Tuesday.
After her health deteriorated owing to the internal bleeding, she was shifted to Government T D Medical College Hospital, Alappuzha, on Monday, for further treatment. She died while undergoing treatment. The locals caught Vijayappan, the accused, who had been in his relative’s house after the incident, and handed him over to the police.
According to the police, the incident happened on Thursday night. Vijayappan who had reached home inebriated started physically assaulting his wife Kamalamma. The woman, who had suffered from severe internal injuries in her abdomen and the groin, was taken to Mavelikkara Government Hospital by her neighbours on Friday morning.
Vijayappan, a hotel labourer, is a habitual drinker. The couple used to live all by themselves in the house. The husband used to physically assault the woman on a daily basis.
As he used to yell swear words at their neighbours and even attempted to attack those who intervene, none of them used to go to their house while he was fighting and beating his wife, locals said.
