Kerala autodriver wins Rs 12 crore lottery

Jayapalan, an autorickshaw driver from Maradu, submitted the ticket bearing number TE 645465 to the Kochi branch of Canara bank. After deducting tax and the lottery agent's commission, the winner will get Rs 7.56 crore.

Kochi: Putting an end to speculations, the winner of the Rs.12 crore Thiruvonam Bumper lottery submitted the jackpot-winning ticket to the bank, a day after the winner was announced.

Jayapalan, an autorickshaw driver from Maradu, submitted the ticket bearing number TE 645465 to the Kochi branch of Canara bank.

The lottery carries prize money of Rs 12 crore.

Jayapalan — an expatriate and a native of Wayanad—bought the ticket from Meenakshi Lotteries in Tripunithura.

The lottery agency had said the winner has purchased the ticket directly from the store.

Last year, the ticket for the second prize of Rs 1 crore for the Onam bumper was sold from the same shop in Tripunithura.

After deducting tax and the lottery agent's commission, the winner will get 7.56 crore.

A total of 54 lakh Onam bumper lottery tickets were sold in the state this year.
