New Delhi: Following the death of four army jawans and an officer in a terrorist attack in J&K's Poonch district today, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechuri lashed out at the Modi government on the increasing number of attacks and killings of civilians that recently happened in the Valley.

"An alarming situation is developing in Jammu and Kashmir. The killing of innocent civilians by terrorists and the spate of terrorist attacks that are shooting up negate the claims of this government. It said in 2019 that abrogation of Article 370 and 35A and complete integration of Kashmir with India will lead to total control over the terrorist activities and organizations. But what is happening now is quite contrary to it," said Yechuri while addressing the media in New Delhi on Monday.

The CPI(M) general secretary compared the current situation in Kashmir to that in the early 90s when a series of terrorist attacks resulted in the mass exodus of Kashmiri Pandits.

"The sort of insecurity that the people are feeling in Kashmir has not been like this since the early 1990s when there was a sudden burst of terrorist attacks," he said.

Referring to the remarks of Prime Minister Modi after meeting with Jammu & Kashmir leaders in New Delhi, Yechuri took a jibe at the PM.

"The prime minister called their leaders, and spoke very rhetorically, saying that he will eliminate the 'Dil ki Doori' and 'Dilli se Doori' of people of J&K. Neither 'Dil ki Doori' nor 'Dilli se Doori' has been erased. On the contrary, greater alienation and greater attacks is underway," Yechuri said.

Sharpening his attack on BJP, Yechuri linked the recent killings of civilians who belonged to the religious minorities of the Kashmir region to the polarization bid and also the situation in the neighbouring country recently taken over by the Taliban.

"We are saying that this deliberate targeting of religious minorities in Jammu and Kashmir is also aimed at sharpening communal polarization which is what the BJP seeks. This is a dangerous game if you factor in Afghanistan developments," said Yechuri.

CPI(M) has yet again emphasised that the leaders of all political parties from Jammu & Kashmir should be involved in the democratic process rather than using forces.

"The question of further alienating the people of Kashmir through tightening the restrictions, arrests and the draconian measures is something what is going to be very dangerous for India. What is required now is political involvement. The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration consists of parties who are all committed to strengthening the relations with Delhi. So involve them in a political process and work out a possible solution to this, that has to be done as soon as possible otherwise the situation will worsen further," said Yechuri.
