New Delhi: Speaking over the political crisis in Punjab, veteran Congress leader Kapil Sibal stated that the Congress party should be strengthened and the issues should be resolved in the party meeting. Addressing a presser in New Delhi on Wednesday, he said that the national party should be united. There are no monopolies in the party.

"Congress needs to introspect. I have never spoken against the party and I will always stand with the party to strengthen it," said Sibal.

Speaking further Sibal stated that the weakening of Congress is not only the loss of the party but also the loss of the Nation.

"A political crisis in border state (Punjab) will work to the advantage of ISI and Pakistan. We know the history of Punjab and the rise of extremism there... Congress should ensure that they remain united," the Congress leader said.

Adding further he said, "Why are people leaving? Maybe we should see whether it is our fault? We have to immediately call a CWC, at least so a dialogue can take place. We won't leave the ideology of the party and go anywhere else. The irony of the Congress is that those who are close to them (leadership) have left and those who they think are not close to them are still there. Honestly, I am really very, very upset that I have to come to you(media). But we have no choice,"

The senior leader said that there is no president in Congress and he has no idea who is taking all the decisions. "In our party, there is no president so we don't know who is making these decisions," Kapil Sibal added.

"I believe that one of my senior colleagues has perhaps written or is about to write to Congress president to immediately convene a CWC so that a dialogue can take place to address the present crisis in the party," Sibal added. Talking about G-23 group, he added, "We are G-23, definitely not Ji Huzoor-23. We will keep raising issues,"

Explaining his anguish further, "I stand here with a heavy heart. I am a part of a party that has a glorifying past. I can't see the situation it is at the moment,"

Also giving a call to Congress leaders who left the party, he said, "I would urge those leaders who left to come back because the Congress party is alone which can save the country," he added.

As his presser was beamed live, members of Congress ganged up at the Delhi residence of Sibal where they resorted to sloganeering against the senior leader in protest. Police present at the scene prevented the protesters from entering Sibal's residence.
