Justice Arun Mishra on Pegasus target list

A mobile number which Justice Arun Mishra once used was on the list of potential targets of snooping through the Isreali Pegasus.

Hyderabad: If you think the notorious Pegasus spyware allegedly used to spy only on some of the leading opposition leaders, journalists and businessmen in the country, then think again. New revelations have now surfaced pointing to that even top Judges, advocates and senior officials in the Supreme Court are not spared. A mobile number which former Supreme Court Justice Arun Mishra once used was in the list of potential targets of snooping through the Isreali Pegasus.

Justice Mishra retired on September 3, 2020 — the report quoted him as saying that he had surrendered the cellphone number on April 21, 2014.

According to a leading news web portal that brought the entire snooping incident to limelight has reported: "Sometime in the spring of 2019, the telephone numbers of two officers from the Supreme Court’s registry were entered onto a secret list that contained hundreds of numbers, including some which show clear evidence of being targeted with Pegasus spyware."

The report also states that the mobile numbers of Supreme Court Registry officials NK Gandhi and TI Rajput, both of who are now retired, feature on the list. Over 1,000 writ petitions are filed in the apex court in any given year, and these are of direct concern to the Union government.

Besides, the numbers of three top lawyers including Aljo Joseph, Vijaya Aggarwal, who represented accused Christian Michel and PNB scam accused Nirav Modi respectively.
