Srinagar: Two days after a suspected drone strike on the airforce station in Jammu district, police on Tuesday said security forces have increased technical and manual surveillance around vital installations, including airports, in the Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference, Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, said he conducted meetings with the army, police and other security agencies to review security around Srinagar airport and other security installations in the Kashmir region.
"This is a technological challenge but we are ready to tackle it. Surveillance has been increased," Kumar said. About the encounter in Srinagar's Maloora area, Kumar said that a top Lashkar-e-Toiba commander Nadeem Abrar and a foreign militant were killed in an overnight gunfight. The encounter started on Monday afternoon. Police had arrested Abrar from Parimpora.

"Abrar was taken to Parimpora police station where joint teams of police, army and CRPF interrogated him. He disclosed that he had kept his weapon, an AK-47, at Maloora after which joint teams of security forces cordoned the area. They launched searches in a house where the Pakistani militant was hiding. He fired on security forces in which three CRPF personnel were injured," Kumar said.
“Abrar had not disclosed about the foreign militant hiding in the house,” the IGP said, adding that in the night-long gunfight, Abrar and the foreign militant were killed. Two AK-47-rifles were recovered from the encounter site, he said. The officer said Abrar was wanted in the Lawaypora attack on the CRPF in which three personnel were killed.
