J&K Electoral Office invites political parties to meet Delimitation Commission

The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Office have sent invitations to major political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including the National Conference, PDP, and the state Congress committee. A delegation of the Delimitation Commission will visit the Union Territory from July 6 to 9, for the creation of seven new assembly constituencies.

Srinagar: A delegation of the Delimitation Commission for the establishment of seven new assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir is visiting the Union Territory from July 6 to 9, during which it will meet the leaders of the major political parties and concerned officials. The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Office have sent invitations to major political parties in Jammu and Kashmir, including the National Conference, PDP, and the state Congress committee.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Anil Kumar Salgutra, told ETV Bharat over the phone that invitations have been sent to the political parties registered with the Election Commission to meet the delimitation commission. Representatives can file an application to meet the Delimitation Commission at the Electoral Office.

The Delimitation Commission will meet the District Development Commissioners of Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam on July 7 at Pahalgam Post Bungalow in South Kashmir. On the same day, they will meet District Election Officers of Budgam, Srinagar, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Ganderbal at a private hotel in Srinagar.

Commission will meet officials of the Kishtwar, Doda, and Ramban districts of Jammu province on July 8. Meanwhile, District Election Officers have been asked to keep the necessary materials and documents for delimitation available at this meeting.

It is to be noted that political parties especially National Conference, Congress, People's Conference have agreed to meet the Commission while PDP has so far remained silent, however, party sources said that PDP leaders will also meet the Commission.
