Srinagar: In a solemn ceremony held today at the Public Relations Office, Badami Bagh (BB) Cantonment, Srinagar, all ranks of the Public Relations Office, paid tributes to Late Major P Purushottam and five brave soldiers, Subedar Brahm Dass, Havildar PK Maharana, Sepoy Choudhary Ramji Bhai, Sepoy Md Razaul Haque and Sepoy C Radhakrishnan, who were killed in action on this day in 1999.
Late Major P. Purushottam, who was posted as Public Relations Officer (Defence), along with five of his comrades bravely fought terrorists who had launched a ‘fidayeen’ style attack on his office in the evening of 3rd November 1999. Having engaged in hand to hand combat with the terrorists, he and his colleagues made the supreme sacrifice while trying to save media persons.
A. Bharat Bhushan Babu, ADG (M&C) Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence, paid tributes to the brave soldiers who had made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.
“We will always draw inspiration from the heroic deeds of the brave hearts," Babu said in his message and called upon all ranks to always keep ‘Nation First’ in their endeavours.
On this occasion, wreaths were laid by Col Rajesh Kalia, PRO (Def) Srinagar on behalf of ADG (M&C) and all ranks of the unit at the memorial in Public Relations Office, Srinagar.
