New Delhi: The Congress party on Monday reaffirmed its support to the 'Bharat Bandh' called by farmers' unions to mark the first anniversary of the enactment of the three farm laws. Speaking to ETV Bharat, Congress spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill said, "First of all, each and every person of this country should support Bharat Bandh to raise voice against the tyranny and to support the perseverance of the farmers. Today's Bharat Bandh call is very much necessary to put an end to the BJP government's policy of destroying agriculture and farmers in our country."

"It is a very pertinent question that if PM can go to inspect the construction of new Parliament, then why can't he go to the Delhi borders to meet farmers and listen to their issues? Today, the people of India are more worried about and troubled by “economic chakka jam” leading to high fuel prices, cylinder prices, closure of businesses and increasing unemployment. They are only happy that the farmers are not stepping back in their fight and are unmasking the "East India Company" mindset of BJP government," he said.

Earlier today, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had also tweeted in support of farmers using a hashtag '#IStandWithFarmers', stating, "Farmers' non-violent Satyagraha is intact even today. But the exploitative government does not like this and that is why we have Bharat Bandh today."

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to roll back the three farm laws by asserting that the entire country is standing in support of the farmers.

Congress on Sunday expressed its "wholehearted" support to the farmers' call of Bharat Bandh and announced various state units, frontal organizations and senior leaders will hold peaceful protests across the country.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of over 40 protesting farmer unions, is leading ' Bharat Bandh' from 6 am to 4 pm. The train operations have also been impacted due to the protest. The farmers have been protesting for the past 10 months demanding that the Central Government revoke the three contentious farm laws.
