Taliban must deliver good governance, says Farooq Abdullah

I hope they (Taliban) deliver justice and a good government, keeping humanity as its centrepiece and run the government on Islamic principles, Abdullah said, adding that the Taliban should build ties and friendship with all countries.

Srinagar: National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah on Wednesday said he expects the Taliban to deliver good governance in Afghanistan. "Afghanistan is a different country. Those who have come to power (the Taliban) will have to stabilise the country. I hope they deliver justice and a good government, keeping humanity as its centrepiece and run the government on Islamic principles," he told reporters on the sidelines of Sheikh Abdullah's 39th death anniversary event in Hazratbal, Srinagar.

Abdullah opined that the Taliban should build ties and friendship with all countries.

The veteran leader said NC will certainly contest Assembly elections and will continue to fight for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and the special status. "I don't know when the Assembly elections will be held, but the National Conference will definitely contest the polls," Abdullah said.

The NC president, along with his son Omar Abdullah and other senior party leaders, arrived at Hazratbal in the morning to commemorate the life of Sheikh Abdullah, popularly known as the Sher-e-Kashmir.
