Lucknow (UP): The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court has said that it will consider providing pension to the family, agricultural land and a job to a member of the victim's family in the Hathras gangrape case.
The court will look into this matter and into the legal aspects of the SC-ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the regulation made under it in this regard, in its next date of hearing on 24 September.
In this regard, an order was passed by a division bench of Justices Rajan Roy and Jaspreet Singh on having taken a suo moto cognizance of a public interest litigation filed with the title 'Right to be cremated in a dignified manner' in the case. During the hearing, the advocate of the victim's family told the court that the family has received a compensation of Rs25 lakh.

Speaking on this, senior advocate JN Mathur, who was appointed as amicus curiae in the case, told the court that under the said Act and the regulation made under it, the dependent of the deceased would get a pension of five thousand rupees, a job provided to a member of the family, agricultural land and house. There is also a provision to fund the cost of education till graduation for one of the family members. However, these benefits were not extended to the family members of the victim.
It was in this context, that the court directed the advocates associated with the case to discuss all these aspects in the next hearing so that these facilities can be provided to the family under the law.
