Kolkata: Following heavy rainfall in Kolkata and its adjacent Howrah district, since Thursday night, Eastern Railways and South Eastern Railways announced the cancellation of several long-distance express trains.
South-East Railways authorities informed that the railway tracks got waterlogged at several places following which they had to take the decision to cancel these trains. Several railway yards in the area too are underwater. For the time being, South Eastern Railways have cancelled 12 trains. However, more trains might be cancelled at a later stage.
The 12 trains under South Eastern Railways that have been cancelled include Howrah- Mumbai Special, Howrah- Titagarh Special, Howrah- Sekendrabad Special, Howrah- Puri Special, Howrah- Adra, Chakradharpur- Bokaro Steel City Special, Howrah- Ahmedabad Special, Howrah- Chennai Special, Howrah- Yeshwantpur Special, Howrah- Hyderabad Special, Howrah- Bhubaneswar Special, Howrah- Mumbai Special and Bokaro Steel City- hakradharpur- Howrah Special. At the same time, the route of Howrah- Purulia Special has been curtailed.
In other sections, long-distance express trains like Howrah- Bhagalpur Express, Purba Express and Lal Kuan Express have been cancelled. At the same time, Doon Express is running much behind schedule. The maintenance and repair works of the railway tracks have been hampered too because of the heavy rains and waterlogging.
