Kollam (Kerala): The carcass of a giant whale has washed ashore at Azheekkal in Kollam district on Sunday, giving out a foul smell that forced the locals to move out of their houses for a few hours.
The whale, about 20 feet long and weighing approximately 2,000 kg, was found by the local community on the rocks of Azheekkal beach on Sunday. A lifeguard deployed at the beach brought the incident to the notice of the Alappuzha panchayath and the police.

The authorities concerned said the carcass had begun to rot and hence it was difficult to bury it.
According to the residents, Azheekkal area has witnessed a whale of such a gigantic size for the first time.
