Bengaluru: Eminent Gandhian and freedom fighter Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy passed away due to age-related complications on Wednesday. He was 104.
Doreswamy had successfully beaten COVID-19 earlier this month.
Born on April 10, 1918, he forayed into the freedom movement with the Quit India Movement for which he was jailed for 14 months in 1943. He was also a key figure in the Mysore (Mysuru) Chalo - a movement that drove the Maharaja of Mysuru to accede to the Indian State post-independence.
A bachelor of science from the Central College, Bengaluru, he worked as a teacher and also tried his hand at journalism by bringing out a newspaper named Pauravani.
