Fresh snowfall in Dras, Manimarg, Sonamarg and Zojila from Thursday morning prompted the administration to suspend traffic on the Srinagar-Leh highway, which was thrown open by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) after four months on Wednesday. Only one-way traffic and small vehicles were allowed to ply on the highway. The 434-km long Srinagar-Leh highway was closed for traffic on December 31.

The highway remained closed for about 112 days as snow accumulated on the road up to several feet. Though the BRO cleared off the snow several times, the highway had to be kept closed for traffic due to continuous fresh spells of snowfall.
