Fake Snapdeal: Tamil Nadu man duped of Rs5 lakh by Delhi-based gang

A private employee in Tamil Nadu's Perambur was duped of rupees five lakh by a proxy Snapdeal website. The victim was told that he won Rs 18 lakh as prize money and in order to stake a claim, he would need to make some payment. In this manner, the unsuspecting victim was made to pay a sum of 5 lakhs.

Perambur (Tamil Nadu): Vinod, a private employee in Tamil Nadu's Perambur, has been duped of rupees five lakh by a proxy Snapdeal website.

According to Vinod, a few days ago, he had registered himself online on Snapdeal for purchasing some products. However, he did not realise that it was a proxy website that he had registered on. After, a few days, he received a free pair of shoes as a gift from the e-commerce portal.

The very next day, he was contacted by the representatives of the portal, who sent him a cheque worth prize money of Rs18 lakhs. He was then asked to make a payment in order to get the money. In this manner, the unsuspecting victim was made to pay a sum of 5 lakh.

On being alerted by his friend about a case of similar fraud, Vinod immediately lodged a complaint at the Ottery police station. An initial investigation by police revealed that the gang was from Delhi and that they are into luring people and siphoning their money.

On Friday, Vinod also lodged a complaint with the Chennai Police Commissioner's Office seeking immediate action to prevent similar frauds.
