Koderma (Jharkhand): Four people were killed after a lift engaged in the construction of a chimney at the Koderma Thermal Power Plant plunged down when the wire attached to it broke.
According to information received, the chimney had been constructed up to a height of 80 feet and the four who died had gone up to inspect the work in progress late Thursday. However, the wire broke and the lift plunged down. After the lift wire broke, two of around 20 labourers who were trapped above the chimney were brought down with the help of a harness wire outside the chimney. Work to rescue the rest of the labourers continued till Friday morning.
Those who died in the accident were Krishna Prasad Kodali, an operator of Vijaya Construction Company that is constructing the chimney and a Nagpur, Maharashtra, resident, Karthik Sagar, an engineer from Raichur, Karnataka, Naveen Kumar, a safety officer from Gaya, Bihar, and Dr Vinod Kumar Choudhary, the company's managing director.
Chief Engineer Uday Kumar of the Koderma Thermal Power Plant is holding a high-level meeting in this connection and the reasons behind the accident are being ascertained.
