Bilaspur: The family members of former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister late Ajit Jogi has withdrawn a defamation suit filed against the then state BJP in-charge JP Nadda on Friday.

The family members stated that there is no sense of carrying forward this case as the former CM died early in May last year.

What was the controversy?

BJP national president and the then party in-charge JP Nadda, during a rally in 2013, said that CM Ajit Jogi responsible for a surge in Naxal activities in the state.

"CM Jogi has been holding the post of Chief Minister since the state was carved from Madhya Pradesh in the year 2000. Since then, neither he nor his party took any action to curb the terrorist activities in the state", said Nadda during a rally in 2013.

Jogi, the first chief minister of Chhattisgarh, was an articulate politician who was as much at ease in political corridors of Delhi as in politics of his home state. A former IAS officer, he was a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha and was picked by Congress President Sonia Gandhi over rival aspirants to lead Chhattisgarh when the state was carved out from Madhya Pradesh in 2000.

He was the chief spokesperson of the Congress from 1997-2000 and held various organisational posts including working President, Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee (in charge of Chhattisgarh) between 1998-2000 and acting president of Chhattisgarh Congress from 2000-01.

The first chief minister of Chhattisgarh breathed his last on May 29, 2020.
