New Delhi: With eyes on the upcoming parliament session which starts from July 19, farmers protesting against the centre's farm laws at the Delhi border have decided to ramp up their struggle. A press release by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has revealed that the farmers intend to protest outside the parliament every day until the end of the monsoon season.

The decision was taken today in a meeting between the farmer leaders, held at the Singhu border. The SKM said that the farmer leaders will send a warning letter to all opposition leaders, to ensure that the session is used to discuss the farmers' issues.

The press note said that from 22nd July five members per organisation and at least two hundred protestors per day will protest every day outside the Parliament until the monsoon session ends.

The farmer leaders have also decided to postpone the gherao of Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh's official residence. The union had earlier announced a program to surround the CM residence over the electricity crisis in the state. The program has now been postponed due to 'improvement in power supply in the state.'

11 rounds of talks between the farmer leaders and a government panel lead by Union Ministers Narendra Singh Tomar and Piyush Goyal during the months of December 2020 and January 2021 failed to yield any results. The farmer leaders have been demanding a complete repeal of the new farm laws brought in by the NDA govt while the govt has been dead set against it.

Talking to reporters last month, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar again ruled out the possibility of repealing the three farm laws but said that the government was ready to resume talks.
