Nothing much expected from tenth round of talks: Expert
Ahead of the talks, ETV Bharat spoke to MJ Khan, chairman of the Indian Chambers of Food and Agriculture (ICFA). Khan said that nothing much can be expected from the tenth round of talks between the farmer unions and the government, considering that the first nine rounds were inconclusive.
Khan, however, said bringing in a law to guarantee the minimum support price (MSP) could be a possibility to end the impasse.
Further, he said that the talks would remain inconclusive unless the government invites farmers from all across the country and not just Punjab and Haryana.

Speaking to ETV Bharat ahead of the tenth round of talks, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesperson Rakesh Tikait said he was hopeful that the government agrees to the farmers demands.
He said that the issue of the government sending notices to several activists and farm leaders would also be raised at the meeting.
On the proposed tractor march on January 26, Tikait said farmers in the villages were continuing their preparations for the protest march and would soon set off towards the national capital.

Anna Hazare to go on indefinite hunger strike from January 30

The Centre on Wednesday withdrew its plea seeking an injunction against the proposed tractor rally on January 26 by farmers protesting against the new farm laws after the Supreme Court said "it is a police matter".
After the observation of the apex court, the Centre withdrew the plea filed through Delhi Police seeking an injunction against the proposed tractor or trolley march or any other kind of protest which seeks to disrupt the gathering and celebrations of the Republic Day.

SC issues notice on plea seeking reconstitution of committee
The Supreme Court issued notice on a plea filed by Kisan Mahapanchayat to reconstitute the committee after one member recused from it.
Earlier, the advocate appearing for Kisan Mahapanchayat had told the Supreme Court that application has been filed on their behalf to reconstitute the Committee after one member recused from it.
"We gave power to the committee to listen (to farmers) and come to us and file their reports," the CJI said. "What is the point of bias in it?," the CJI asked.
"No power has been given to committee members to adjudicate things, they have to report to us. Where is the question of bias? If you don't want to appear before committee, don't appear but don't malign or brand anyone like this, don't cast aspersion on the court," the CJI added.

Yet another protesting farmer dies by suicide
During the ongoing farmers' protest at Delhi's Tikri border, yet another farmer died by suicide. Jai Bhagwan, a farmer from Haryana's Rohtak district, had consumed poison on Tuesday evening. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but died in the wee hours of Wednesday morning.
Bhagwan had been helping the protesting farmers, and used to bring vegetables and milk for them.
In his parting note, Bhagwan wrote that perhaps the woes of a dead farmer would be heard as the voice of living farmers were being ignored.

"A group of farm union leaders including Balbir Singh Rajewal and others will meet top officials of Delhi Police to discuss the route and other arrangements for their protest march on Republic Day against the three farm laws," Jamuri Kisan Union leader, Kalwant Singh Sandhu, told a news agency.

Supporters of RJD MLA clash with cops after farmers stopped from marching to Delhi
Earlier on Tuesday, supporters of an RJD MLA who had come out in support of a group of 500 farmers from Odisha, clashed with the police at the Bihar-UP border. The group was making its way from Odisha to Delhi to participate in the January 26 tractor march. However, they were stopped by the Uttar Pradesh police at the Naubatpur border, as police asked them not to march ahead. Meanwhile, supporters of RJD MLA Sudhakar Singh, who had come in support of farmers, clashed with the police, following which restrictions under Section 144 were imposed in the area.

New Delhi: The tenth round of talks between the Central government and farmers' representatives over the contentious agricultural laws will be held on Wednesday at Vigyan Bhavan at 2 pm.
The talks, earlier scheduled for January 19, were later postponed to Wednesday.
As the ninth round of talks between the Central government and farmer unions on January 15 remained inconclusive, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar had said the unions have been asked to form informal groups among themselves and submit a draft to the government regarding their demands.
Tomar had said the government will think about the draft with an "open mind".
Saying that the government is concerned about the farmers protesting in cold conditions, he had asserted that the Centre is positive to reach a solution through talks.
On January 12, the Supreme Court stayed the implementation of the Centre's three farm laws and asked the committee formed by it concerning the laws to submit its report within two months.

The committee has been directed to hold a dialogue with farmers and submit its recommendations pertaining to the farm laws within two months from the date of its first sitting.
However, the leaders of farmers' unions rejected the committee, saying their members were already in favour of the farm laws.
Bhupinder Singh Mann, National President of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Mann) had recused himself from the four-member committee appointed by the top court over the new farm laws.
The first meeting of the Committee appointed by the Supreme Court to deliberate with concerned stakeholders on farm laws, was held on Tuesday, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
