New Delhi: Taliban formed the government in Afghanistan with UN-designated terrorist Mohammad Hasan Akhund taking the role of Prime Minister, while hardliners core group joined the Cabinet. Strategic expert Sushant Sareen said, “Nothing is surprising about the government which has been announced, maybe a couple of faces here and there. The only interest which most people had was how they would strike a balance between the various factions of the Taliban. But anybody who expected that the Taliban government is going to be some kind of ‘poster-boy of liberalism’, that was delusional.

"The Taliban never gave anybody any impression that they are coming with a very liberal form of government, which is certainly not. But clearly, I think, between the pragmatist faction within the Taliban and the hardliners faction, latter have taken the centre-stage. At least, for now, they seem to have got the lion share of all the important positions," Sareen said.

Taliban’s behaviour is going to alienate any educated, qualified person in Afghanistan. So what kind of government will they be able to run, we have to wait and watch No doubt, serious questions that will be raised in the days to come, he pointed out.

“People who have been internationally designated as UN terrorists are now cabinet ministers. Will the world simply accept it?" asked the expert.
