Covid vaccination for young delayed in Assam

The COVID-19 vaccination drive for people aged 18-45 years in Assam will not commence on May 1 as vaccines are yet to reach the state, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, Dr Lakshmanan S said on Friday.

Guwahati (Assam): The COVID-19 vaccination drive for people aged 18-45 years in Assam will not commence on May 1 as vaccines are yet to reach the state, Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, Dr Lakshmanan S said on Friday.

He said a total of 23,93,570 vaccines have already been administered in the state so far. As many as 5,56,890 frontline workers and 3,24,241 healthcare workers have been inoculated, he said.

Dr Lakshmanan said while about 5 lakh people have already taken the second dose of the vaccine, 18,78,000 people were administered the first dose till 2 pm on Friday. There are 1.28 crore people above 18 years in the state who will be vaccinated under the third phase.
