Covid-19: India records 46,164 fresh cases, 607 deaths

India reported 46,164 new Covid-19 cases, 34,159 recoveries and 607 deaths in the last 24 hrs, as per the Union Health Ministry.

Hyderabad: A single-day rise of 46,164 Covid-19 infections, 607 fatalities push India's tally of cases to 3,25,58,530 and death toll to 4,36,365, as per the Union Health Ministry. The number of active cases currently stand at 3,33,725, according to the data updated at 8am on Thursday. The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has surged to 3,17,88,440.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 51,31,29,378 samples have been tested up to August 25 for Covid-19. Of these, 17,87,283 samples were tested on Wednesday. So far, 60.38 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide vaccination drive.

Covid-19 vaccine availability in States/UTs

The Centre in a bid to accelerate the pace and widen the scope of Covid-19 vaccination pan India, has ramped up the availability of more vaccines, to States and UTs, so that they can plan better and streamline the vaccine supply chain. As part of the nationwide vaccination drive, Government of India has been supporting the States and UTs by providing them Covid vaccines free of cost. In the new phase of the universalization of the Covid19 vaccination drive, the Union Government will procure and supply (free of cost) 75% of the vaccines being produced by the vaccine makers in the country to States and UTs.

As per date provided by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, over 58.76 crore vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category. Further, more than 1.03 Cr doses are in the pipeline. Also, more than 3.77 Cr balance and unutilized Covid Vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
