Corona havoc: Several markets closed from tomorrow in Delhi

Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has written to Delhi LG Shri Anil Baijal and Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal urging them to impose a lock-down in Delhi for the next 15 days to break the chain of Covid pandemic. They are also considering imposing a self-lockdown.

New Delhi: The fast-rising number of corona cases in Delhi has shaken the traders of Delhi, which prompted the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) to write a communication to Delhi LG Shri Anil Baijal and Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal urging them to impose a lock-down in Delhi for next 15 days to break the chain of Covid pandemic and in the meantime, they have asked the government should make arrangements for medical facilities, but due to some reasons, the government has not taken any decision to impose the lock-down yet.

CAIT Secretary General Praveen Khandelwal and State President Vipin Ahuja told that today CAIT had a zoom meeting of prominent trade leaders of Delhi during the day in which, after much discussion, it was decided that the traders organizations of Delhi will hold a discussion with their respective Associations tomorrow to take formal decision of self lock-down.

CAIT State General Secretaries Shri Devraj Baweja and Ashish Grover said that in the meantime, Chandni Chowk Sarv Vyapar Mandal has announced the decision to close shops in Chandni Chowk from tomorrow to 25 April, while various other major trade associations including paper, electrical, drug, electronics, radio, chemical, Kirana, opticals, footwear, cycle market, card market, and many organizations of Yamunapar have announced the closure of the market from tomorrow till April 21. Several other Associations of Delhi have convened their meetings tomorrow to take a decision.

Khandelwal said that this is not a protest against any government, but business organizations are closing their own market as a defence against Corona for themselves and their customers and employees. The CAIT has convened a video conference of trade leaders of Delhi tomorrow at 3 pm to take a final decision in consultation with other wholesale and retail trade associations of Delhi.
