New Delhi: A day after thousands of farmers went on a rampage in Delhi while taking out their tractor rally, Congress party raised serious doubts on the Central Government, allegedly questioning if it was a "planned conspiracy" to disrupt the farmer's agitation against the three agriculture laws.

While condemning the violence that occurred in Red Fort, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, "It is absolutely distressing that how did a farmer's movement that was absolutely peaceful for the last 61 days turn violent? We do not support vandalism or violence of any form."

She also raised questions over the role of Punjabi actor, Deep Sidhu, whose name come under scrutiny after farmers accused him of planting the "Nishan Sahib" or Sikh religious flag at the Red Fort.

"However, it is very very surprising that Deep Siddhu, the man who went on to hoist another flag at the Red Fort, he is deeply associated with BJP. Pictures have now revealed that he was inside the PM's residence, he has been photographed with Amit Shah, Sunny Deol and Hema Malini. This also needs to be probed," she added while asserting that the party strongly believes that there is no place for any other flag at the Red Fort.

Meanwhile, yesterday evening, Deep Sidhu defended his act in a Facebook post, saying that it was a spontaneous act and the protesters did not remove the national flag but put up the "Nishan Sahib" as a symbolic protest.

Questioning the Central Government and its Union Ministers over the incident, Supriya Shrinate said, "Narendra Singh Tomar kept saying that he apprehended there will be violence. Did he have a sixth sense? Did he know of something? And if there was an intelligence report, why weren't some of these people, who were going to create disturbance and distress, not identified and why were they taken action against by the law enforcement agencies?"

She asserted, "There are many questions that need to be answered. Has there been a conspiracy to paint this entire movement as violence? Also, one needs to remind Mr Modi that things have come to this because of your obstinate attitude and it is still time for you to repeal the laws and satisfy India's farmers." Earlier today, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also tweeted a quote of Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings in the context of violence that occurred in the national capital yesterday. He also appealed to the Modi government to revoke the three contentious farm laws.

He stated, “In a gentle way, you can shake the world – Mahatma Gandhi. Once again, there is an appeal to the Modi government to immediately withdraw the anti-farmers law.”
