Congress compares RSS with Muslim League and Mohammad Ali Jinnah

A day after RSS chief Mohan Bhagawat accused some 'opposition parties' of utilizing Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) issue for their own benefit, Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi said that the political ideology of RSS and Muslim League is one and the same.

New Delhi: Accusing the Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh (RSS) of dividing the nation on the basis of religion, Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi said that Mohan Bhagawat talked about Srimanta Sankardeva but there is no similarity in the ideology of RSS and Mohapurush Sankardeva. "Sankardeva preached about humanity and brotherhood...But RSS has only political objectives. If you compare the political philosophy of Muslim League and Mohammad Ali Jinnah, it's the same political philosophy," said Gogoi in New Delhi.

Gogoi further accused that BJP divides people and society on the basis of religion. Srimanta Sankardev was an Assamese polymath in the 15th century. His literary and artistic contributions are being followed by people across the globe. He set up Sattras, which continue to be important socio-religious institutions in Assam. Significantly, leaders from RSS and BJP always refer to the name of Sankardev in their speech in Assam.

Referring to the Pegasus controversy, Gogoi demanded a judicial inquiry into the entire episode besides resignation of Home Minister Amit Shah. Gogoi was talking to a select group of reporters in New Delhi. "Pegasus is a big threat to all of us. If phones of journalists, social activists, opposition leaders are hacked, where is the security?" asked Gogoi.

He vehemently criticised the Centre after it declined to order any probe into the snooping row. "The irony is that the Israeli government has called for a probe over the Pegasus controversy in their country, but our government has given clean chit to the spyware company," said Gogoi. Talking about the two child policy norms being initiated by Uttar Pradesh and Assam governments, Gogoi said that the government in the States should also implement the norms for their MPs and MLAs.

"If a minister in the State government in Assam found having three children, will he be forced to give up his ministry. And if a MLA is found having three children, will the MLA development fund stopped for him," said Gogoi.
