New Delhi: Congress party on Monday asked its state units and frontal organizations, departments and cells to jointly organize protest and dharnas with the like-minded parties all across the nation against the Central government policies from September 20 to 30.

The decision to hold protests against the Centre was taken in Opposition parties meet, called by Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi, in the month of August, in which as many as 19 Like-minded parties had participated.

In view of this, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge KC Venugopal had written a letter to all the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) presidents, CLP leaders, AICC general secretaries, state in-charges, MPs, AICC secretaries and heads of frontal organizations, departments and cells.

In the letter, he mentioned, "As you are aware, leaders of 19 opposition parties participated in a virtual meeting held on August 20, 2021 to discuss and deliberate upon urgent issues affecting common man's life and the apathetic attitude of the incompetent BJP government thereof. In that meeting, it was decided that all like-minded parties would jointly organise protests and dharnas to reiterate the opposition's demands and also to exhort the people of India all over the country from September 20 to 30, to come out in large numbers to defend our sovereign, secular, socialist and democratic rights with all our might," the Congress leader further added.

Congress has also asked its senior leaders, MPs, MLAs, to take part in these protests while ensuring Covid-19 protocols.
