New Delhi: Congress party, on Thursday, launched a scathing attack on the Central government for hiking the prices of LPG cylinders saying that it should disburse a loan for common people. While addressing a press conference, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, "This government has decided to rub salt into the wounds of common man by hiking LPG cylinder prices by Rs 25. This is not just immoral, it's arbitrary, it is irrational."
She asserted that the LPG price of Saudi Aramco was $587 per metric tonnes in March 2021. At that time, our LPG price was Rs 819. Today, Saudi Aramco prices have gone down to $523 per metric tonnes, while LPG prices in India are at Rs 834, which ideally should be at Rs 552. She also claimed that the LPG prices have been increased by Rs 240 in the last 7 months.

"There are 29 crore LPG users in this country. You may keep flaunting Ujjwala, but how many Ujjwala beneficiaries can today buy LPG cylinders at Rs 834. The reality is that three crore people in the country have been pushed below the poverty line 1 crore jobs have been lost 97 per cent of people have become poor our per capita GDP is at three years low and instead of putting money in the hands of people this hike in petrol, diesel and LPG are only going to dampen demand," she said while attacking the government.
